Two men sentenced to 15 years in prison for conspiring against the king of Jordan | infodesk4n

Amman: Sharif Hassan Zayed and Bassim Awadullah were sentenced to 15 years in jail in Jordan for conspiring to overthrow King Abdullah II and destabilize the government.

Sharif Hassan Zayed, a relative of Jordan's King Abdullah II, and Bassim Awadullah, former head of the royal court, were sentenced to 15 years in prison for planning a coup, according to the international news agency.

Bassim Awadullah, ally of King Abdullah II and former head of the royal court, also has American citizenship and was once the main financial aide to King Abdullah II, while Sharif Hassan bin Zayed, during the time of King Abdullah. He is a relative of the Jordanian ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The Jordanian court ruled that the two men had incited the former crown prince and half-brother of King Abdullah II, Prince Hamza, to take control of the kingdom, for which there was clear evidence. Prince Hamza was not included in the lawsuit, but the prosecution says the 41-year-old former crown prince, in clear violation of the constitution and customs, preferred his personal desire to rule the state.

It should be remembered that on 4 April this year, Prince Hamza, half-brother of King Abdullah II of Jordan, was placed under house arrest on charges of sedition. During his arrest, the prince released a video statement in which he denied the allegations of treason and accused him of being wrongfully arrested.

Later, former Crown Prince Hamza took an oath of allegiance to King Abdullah II, apologized to the king, reaffirmed his loyalty, and declared an end to his differences with the king.
